Deep Blue Bedroom Refresh
The owners of this Cheshire bedroom wanted something with more character than the plain magnolia it had lived with for years. They liked the idea of a darker, cocooning room but were nervous it would feel small or cold.
The brief
Add depth and atmosphere without closing the room in, using a blue that stays soft and warm rather than sharp, and keeping the trim light so the walls do not feel heavy.
The preparation
Darker colours show every flaw, so the prep mattered even more here. We filled, sanded and primed the walls to a flat, even base, and rubbed the woodwork down for a clean, hard-wearing finish.
The finish
Walls in a deep, muted blue, the ceiling kept in a soft warm white so the room still felt airy, and the woodwork in a warm off-white to lift the edges.
- Deep muted blue walls, warmed not cold
- Soft warm-white ceiling to keep it airy
- Warm off-white woodwork to frame the depth
Finished in two days, the room now feels like the best room in the house rather than the spare one.
