Panelled Hallway and Staircase
Hallways take more knocks than any other part of the house, and this Knutsford hall, staircase and landing had the scuffs to prove it. The owners wanted it to feel like a proper welcome, and to stand up to bags, shoes and busy family traffic.
The brief
Give the entrance some architecture and warmth, and use finishes tough enough for the hardest-working space in the house.
The preparation
We fitted simple wall panelling to add character, then filled, caulked and sanded every joint so the lines read crisp, and primed the new timber before painting.
The finish
A soft, warm neutral above the panelling with a deeper grounding tone below to hide the scuffs, spindles and handrail picked out in a crisp white, all in a durable eggshell that wipes clean.
- New wall panelling for character and protection
- Two-tone scheme that hides everyday marks
- Crisp spindles and handrail in a wipeable eggshell
Three days on site, and the first thing you see coming through the door now sets the tone for the whole house.
