Period Dining Room Repaint
This Cheshire dining room had lovely period bones — a deep cornice and tall windows — but a flat, cool colour that did nothing for it in the evening. The owners entertain often and wanted a room that felt warm and sociable after dark.
The brief
Bring out the period detail and make the room feel rich and welcoming under lamplight, without going so dark it felt gloomy by day.
The preparation
We covered the table and floor, made good a couple of cracks in the cornice, filled and sanded the walls and woodwork, and cut in the detailed mouldings carefully by hand.
The finish
Walls in a warm, sociable mid-tone that glows under lamplight, the ceiling and cornice in a soft white to keep the detail sharp, and the woodwork in a crisp low-sheen white.
- Warm, sociable wall colour for evening light
- Cornice and ceiling picked out to sharpen the detail
- Crisp woodwork throughout
Two days from start to finish, and the room now earns its keep every time they have people over.
